The Magnetack - Magnetic Poster Hangers - About Us

Even though our response time to customer questions is unbelievably short, we decided to publish these Frequently Asked Questions for your convenience. If you have any questions that are not answered here, feel free to E-Mail us!

Q: How much is international shipping? A: Standard shipping to anywhere in the world that USPS delivers is a flat rate of $5.00. For expedited shipping, please contact us here!

Q: How many Magnetacks does it take to hold a standard 27" x 38.5" poster? A: It will only take two Magnetacks along the top to hold a poster of this size. Add two more Magnetacks to the bottom to add extra support and to prevent the poster from swaying in the wind.

Q: What grade are the magnets? A: Both the base tack magnet and the coupling magnet are grade N42 magnets.

Q: Are Magnetacks strong enough to hold up laminated items? A: Yes, Magnetacks will be strong enough to support a laminated item, but it may take more than just one Magnetack in each corner. This all depends on the thickness of the laminate and the overall weight of the item.

Q: How much weight can one Magnetack hold? A: Tricky question! This answer is totally dependent on the item's thickness, weight, coefficient of friction, and to a lesser extent, shape. There are many other factors that can affect the true "support weight" of one Magnetack, but there are too many to list here.

Some reference points:

It takes just over one pound of force to pull the coupling magnet off of the base tack.

One Magnetack can hold up 20 sheets of standard white printer paper.

One Magnetack can support up to 16 standard thickness business cards.

Q: How big are Magnetacks? A: Classic Magnetacks have approximately a 3/8" diameter base and 3/8" long base tack. XL Magnetacks have approximately a 3/8" diameter base and 5/8" long base tack. For those of you who are not quite sure how big 3/8" is, it is about the size of a plain M&M chocolate candy and 5/8" is about the size of a peanut M&M.

Q: Are the coupling magnets different sizes? A: The coupling magnets for both the Classic and XL Magnetacks, and the Colored Coupling Magnets are all 1/4" x 1/4" cylindrical magnets.

Q: Can Magnetacks hang up a flag? A: Yes, Magnetacks can hang up a flag. Depending on the size of the flag, it may take more than just one Magnetack in each corner to hold it up, but they will work.

In February 2007, Bryan Pinchuk founded Room-D Products LLC while attending the University of Florida, in Gainesville. He acquired numerous sports (and swimsuit model!) posters during his tenure at the Swamp.

While decorating his apartment during senior year, Bryan decided to preserve the integrity of these posters. Laying down on his bed wondering how to hang the posters without destroying them, he thought to himself "Push-pins put a hole in the poster, tape will rip the poster, and gooey adhesives just don't work. What goes through a poster without actually going through it?" After a few moments he screamed, "MAGNETS!". Immediately, he went to a local hardware store and acquired the necessary items to create his Magnetack prototype.

Hanging up a Spike Lee autographed advertising poster, Bryan put the first ever Magnetack to use. It worked like a charm. Not too long after this, his neighbor (we'll call him "RowdyReptile") demanded he have the next set of Magnetacks. He also acquired numerous posters and was reluctant to destroy them with conventional poster hanging methods. By mid-Spring 2007, Magnetacks hit shelves at the "Gator Textbooks" bookstore.

Over the years, Magnetacks have transformed into two distinct product lines coupled with an extensive Accessory line. Remember: Pictures are worth a thousand words, please don't ruin them with holes or tape.
